OPTIONS FOR INVOLVEMENT:   HOW YOU CAN HELP NATT

The mission of the National Alliance for Thrombosis and Thrombophilia is to prevent, diagnose and treat thrombosis and thrombophilia through research, education, support and advocacy.

Thank you for your interest in helping NATT implement its mission at the local level.   We are often contacted by individuals wishing to get involved with NATT through the formation of a NATT Chapter or a variety of other options.  The information below will provide you with an overview and description of these options.  By completing our questionnaire, we’ll begin the process of working with you in meeting your needs and NATT’s needs of your region.

NATT SUPPORTS!

Our Stop the Clot® Support Groups provide an opportunity for patients, family members and friends to learn and share thoughts about blood clots and clotting disorders.  NATT will provide a Stop the Clot® Support Group Facilitator’s Guide to assist with the logistics of organizing and developing a group in your region. NATT TEACHES!

NATT works closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), thrombophilia centers and anticoagulation clinics on its Stop the Clot® Education Project, which includes such programs as:

  • For patients, families and the general public:  Stop the Clot Forums™

  • For health professionals: Online learning opportunities

These education programs help inform the general and at-risk population about the statistics, risk factors and treatment options for blood clots and clotting disorders.  NATT provides instructional materials, slide sets, potential sponsor lists for solicitation and national–based staff support to assist in bringing these educational opportunities to your area.  If you’re interested in helping in this way, please click here.

NATT FUNDS!

Fundraising activities aimed at raising awareness and financial support help NATT fund its overall mission.  Local volunteer organized special events, such as a Stop the Clot® Walk, Golf Tournament, Auction (silent, live or online) or other activities are excellent opportunities to rally support for NATT while providing information about blood clots and clotting disorders.  Personal fundraising appeals through letter writing or online campaigns as well as corporate and foundation grant solicitations are also effective means of showing your interest and support of this important cause.  Whatever you choose, NATT will provide logos, banners and educational materials, in addition to staff guidance in ensuring the best possible outcome for your activities. NATT GROWS!

A national base of functioning chapters is critical to the growth of financial, educational and patient support programs and services, as well as for leadership development.  Chapters are essential for organizational growth. Combined, the activities of NATT SUPPORTS, NATT TEACHES and NATT FUNDS coalesce to form a successful NATT chapter that is able to implement the NATT mission at the local level.  NATT’s Chapter Resource Manual serves as the reference for NATT volunteers and staff regarding the creation and ongoing operation of effective chapters, including:

  • An overview of the purposes of NATT and its policies on chapters

  • Organizational documents that define the roles, relationships and responsibilities of chapters

  • Tools to organize and strengthen chapter boards

  • Tools to assist with the ongoing management of chapter operations

Typically, chapter development costs are approximately $220,000 over a three-year period, at which point it is expected that the Chapter is able to be self-sustaining.  Nationally, as a start-up organization, NATT’s resources are limited, and our goal is to reach as many people as possible.  We anticipate, focusing primarily on major markets with populations exceeding 1 million people.  Exceptions may be considered in markets where local resources are able to fund a minimum of 50% of the chapter development costs.  In selecting the priority order of chapters to be developed, consideration will be given to the geographic spread of sites developed to date, with the objective of reaching 75% of the US population. The goal is to create a sense of a “nationwide” organization vs. a cluster of chapters within a section of the United States. If you’re interested in helping in this way, please click here.
